MATERIALS AND PROCESSING

 

 

Materials and Processing-(Grades 9-12)

This semester course will allow students to apply a wide variety of metal and wood fabrication
technologies. . The focus of the Materials Processing course is to gain an understanding of
the characteristics and applications of the materials used in society. Students will work both
cooperatively and independently to solve problems and do projects in the following areas:
1) Materials Research Report: Polymers, Metals, Forest Products, Ceramics, Composites
2) Materials Characteristics and Identification
3) Material Processes: Forming, Separating, Combining, Conditioning
4) Materials Testing: Conductivity, Insulation, Tensile, Ductility, Compression, Malleability
5) Tools and Materials: Metal sheet and Bar stock, Wood sheet, board and rod stock.
6) Power Equipment: Lathe, Power Saws, Drill Press, Planer and Jointer, etc
7) Processes: Foundry and forge, Metal spinning and turning, Wood and metal fabrication, sand
casting,
