Elective - Sociology I Course Description

Grades 11-12

Sociology is the social science that studies human society and social behavior.  Sociologists are primarily interested in how people relate to one another and influence each other’s behavior, focusing more on the group, rather than the individual.  Topics for study in this course include: cultural diversity and conformity, social structure, the adolescent in society, deviance in society, gender, age, health, and the emergence of new social institutions.  This course will consist of investigations, discussions, in-class projects and assignments, and a research project.
