Prerequisite: Successful completion of English 7 with a grade of 90% or better and permission of Spanish I teacher.
This course is a rigorous compaction of high school Spanish I. Spanish I introduces students to the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. In the language component of the course, all four skill areas (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are addressed. Students build a basic core vocabulary to communicate in everyday situations. Emphasis is placed on a situational approach to learning. Integrated with the language study, students encounter insights into Hispanic culture, and through special project activities, they learn about the places where Spanish is spoken. Students who successfully complete this course and the final examination will receive no credit towards graduation but may enroll in Spanish II in high school with approval of the principal.
