Prerequisite: A grade of 70% or better in English and teacher recommendation. Spanish I introduces students to the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. In the language component of the course, all four skill areas (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) are addressed. Students build a basic core vocabulary to communicate in everyday situations. Emphasis is placed on a situational approach to learning. Integrated with the language study, students encounter insights into Hispanic culture, and through special project activities, they learn about the many places where Spanish is spoken. *It is highly recommended that a student has scored proficient on his/her most recent reading assessment before signing up for this course.
