Penns Valley Season Ends in Altoona
October 24 - The Lady Rams traveled to Altoona on Wednesday evening to take on the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders in the first round of the District 6 "A" playoffs. Playing conditions were great and the Lady Rams came out playing hard from the start. Penns Valley got on the board early at the 5:50 mark when Destiny Andrus put a ball through to a hard charging Marcy Smucker, who got behind the Marauder defense and beat the keeper with a great shot from 12 yards out. The Lady Rams continued to work hard and were able to establish a passing game at times. Bishop Guilfoyle has a freshman, Alyssa McGhee, who has scored 57 goals for them this season and was always dangerous around the ball. Brandi Heckman did a great job of marking her and was able to keep her silent for the first 20 minutes. At the 21:40 mark, however, she finally was able to get a good shot off and found the upper left side of the goal to tie the score.
In the second half, both teams came out firing but Guilfoyle scored early, at the 43:20 mark, when McGhee took the ball deep to the left side of the goal and squeezed a shot in at the near post. Both teams continued to battle back-and-forth and put pressure on both keepers. Lady Ram keeper Kylie Orndorf came up big on numerous occasions to shut McGhee down the rest of the way. Penns Valley fought all the way to the end but couldn't come up with the equalizer. The game ended with a score of 2-1.

Penns Valley pinned Bald Eagle in their own end at the start and earned numerous corner kicks but couldn't notch the early goal. At 6:31, Bald Eagle finally broke out of their own half on a breakaway and took advantage of a slippery field to slip one past Kylie Orndorf into the back of the net to go up 1-0. Penns Valley responded and generated some more opportunities but could not get off good shots on goal. The half ended at 1-0.
In the second half, the seniors led the way with good defense and some breakthrough goals. At 49:18, Rachel Long took a shot from long range that the BEA goalie could not corral. A hard-charging Brandi Heckman took advantage by scooping up the rebound and kicking it home to even the score. Bald Eagle responded, however, at 51:57, with a similar goal off a rebound. The wet night made for some wild action inside the penalty area. Grace Gover, on her birthday, made sure that Penns Valley would not be held down. At 52:39, Bald Eagle fouled a Lady Ram 25 yards out near the middle of the field and Gover drilled the direct kick over the keeper's head and under the crossbar for her first goal of the night. A minute later, a nice passing combination across the field finished with a Maggie Lynch assist to a charging Gover at the corner of the penalty area and she chipped the ball over the goalie's head for the game winner. Orndorf and the rest of the Penns Valley defense came up big the rest of the game as Bald Eagle pressed and the slippery conditions made every foray inside the penalty area exciting.

Against the run of play, Philipsburg made a drive into the Penns Valley end of the field in the 23rd minute and earned a corner kick. The corner kick was driven into a pile of players and ricocheted twice before ending up in the back of the net for the lone score of the game. Penns Valley Loses to Huntingdon in Tight Match
Sept. 13 - Penns Valley traveled to Huntingdon on Thursday and lost a hard-fought game 2-1. The Bearcats always play an aggressive, physical game, and Thursday was no different. The score at halftime was 1-0.
In the second half, the Lady Rams came out with a little more energy and a little better passing, and were able to press the Huntingdon defense. After a number of dangerous runs at the Huntingdon defense by Valerie Kubalak and Destiny Andrus, PV finally got on the scoreboard. In the 47th minute, Maggie Lynch took a long throw in deep inside Bearcat territory and Marcy Smucker got on the end of it and flicked it on with her head. Andrus gathered up the pass and launched a hard low shot from 15 yards out that beat the keeper. Smucker added a second goal at 18:13 off an assist from Valerie Kubalak. Lady Rams Open the Season with a Split at Hughesville
Sept. 1 - The Lady Rams traveled to Hughesville on Saturday and made it to the championship game before falling to the hosts in the nightcap. Penns Valley faced Northeast Bradford in the first game and it was a hot and muggy noon start. The Lady Rams pressed from the start and got a quick goal in the third minute when Maggie Lynch took a feed from Valerie Kubalak and beat the goalie to the high side from 25 yards out with a shot that hit the bottom of the crossbar before bouncing into the net. Penns Valley got their passing game going early and distributed the ball very well around the field. They kept the pressure on but NEB was able to get an equalizer towards the end of the first half to make the scored tied 1-1 at halftime.
In the second half, PV continued to work the ball well and kept the ball in their offensive end most of the time, but the NEB goalkeeper had a nice game and defended her net well. In the 53rd minute, however, Valerie Kubalak broke through and buried a shot from 12 yards out on a nice cross from Rachel Long to get the game-winner. Grace Gover added an insurance goal in the 75th minute on a rocket shot from 25 yards out that beat the keeper in the low corner. Penns Valley outshot NEB 34-4 for the game.
In the second game, the team speed and larger roster of Hughesville was too much for PV to handle. The Lady Rams were clearly tired from the earlier match, with many girls doing double duty on JV and Varsity. Hughesville was able to establish control of the match from the beginning and keep the pressure on the Lady Ram defense most of the game. Two first half goals were all Hughesville would need to retain the rights to the Lady Spartan trophy. The PV defense played well and was able to turn away many opportunities that the Lady Spartans had. Kylie Orndorf had a busy night in goal and ended the match with 24 saves.
The Penns Valley JV opened the day with a 0-1 overtime loss against Northeast Bradford. They outshot NEB but were unable to find the net. In their second game, against Wyalusing, they found their scoring touch and PV torched the net with 6 goals for a 6-0 win.

BG struck next midway through the half on their second shot of the game to make the score 2-2. Finally at 71:38 Mona Bryant crossed the ball from the side and found a wide open Liz Ventura in front of the net who buried the gamewinner to make it 3-2. Lady Rams Shut Out by Juniata
October 18 - The Lady Rams traveled to Mifflintown on Thursday to take on the Indians and looked tired in a 0-3 loss. The game was largely played at midfield and both teams had trouble playing much of a control game on the hard, rough, game surface. Penns Valley Clinches League Championship
October 17 - Philipsburg-Osceola came to play on Wednesday evening and, unlike their first meeting, gave the Lady Rams all the could handle before finally succumbing in double overtime, 2-1. The Mounties came out firing and Ally Lush was forced to make a nice diving save just a minute into the game. This seemed to energize PO and they pushed hard and put the Lady Ram defense under a lot of pressure. Eight minutes into the game, they finally hit paydirt as a hard, low shot, beat the diving Lush into the net. It was a back-and-forth game for the rest of the half until with less than ten minutes to go the Lady Rams finally started pressing the attack. The score remained 0-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Penns Valley came out playing better soccer and put the PO defense under pressure. The Mounties packed in the defense, however, and Penns Valley was unable to find room to get off good shots. Finally, in the 65th minute, Ella Myer beat a defender to the end line and took the ball right in on the goalie. The goalie guessed pass and cheated out of the goal too far and Myer buried the tough-angle shot in the back of the net to tie the score. The rest of the half saw PO pack it in on defense and look for the occasional breakaway but neither side could score. The first ten minute overtime was more of the same. One minute into the second overtime, Sarah Montminy finally found some room to maneuver from 25 yards out, beat three defenders and launched a shot past the diving PO keeper to earn the golden goal.
Penns Valley now starts district play as the second seeded team (Bishop McCort is first) and will host Bishop Guilfoyle on Thursday, October 25, at 7:30pm. The second half saw much of the same kind of action, with a hard fought game in the midfield area. Penns Valley was unable to capitalize on their opportunities, however, while Juniata did. Girls' Soccer League Changes
May 7 - Penns Valley Girls' Soccer will now be part of a new conference called the Mountain League. The Central Mountain Girls' Soccer League (CMGSL) and the Mountain Athletic Conference (MAC) were both scrapped after last year. The new Mountain League will be split into a large school division and a small school division. The large school division includes Lewistown, Bellefonte, Indian Valley and Central Mountain. The small school division includes Penns Valley, Huntingdon, Bald Eagle, Philipsburg-Osceola and Tyrone. The Lady Rams will play each small school twice and each large school once. Each division will crown a champion at the end of the year.
The dissolution of the CMGSL brings to an end some always-entertaining league matchups with Juniata and East Juniata. There was enough room in the schedule, however, that the Lady Rams were able to schedule both teams twice in non-league action so the rivalry will continue, but without the league championship riding on the line.
Record 12-6-1 (V), 10-6-1 (JV)

PV Bows Out in District Semifinals
October 30 - The Lady Rams traveled to Hollidaysburg on Monday night to take on perennial District 6 champs Westmont Hilltop and lost a tough game 3-0. Penns Valley came out strong and had a flurry of opportunities in the first 20 minutes of the game but could not convert any of them into goals. For awhile, they were beating the Hilltoppers to the ball and passing well. As the game went on, however, the size, strength and speed of Westmont began to wear down the Lady Rams and put the defense under pressure. In the 27th minute, the Lady Rams once again fell victim to their nemesis from last year, Senior Hilltopper Kelly Britcher. Britcher found a seam in the Penns Valley defense and launched an accurate shot which beat Lady Rams keeper Holly Heinrichs to the far post. The half ended with the score 1-0.
Penns Valley started the second half with a little bit of a spark again but were still unable to take advantage of the few opportunities that they earned. Britcher broke through behind the defense in the 25th minute of the half and snuck the ball past a hard-charging Heinrichs to make it 2-0. The Hilltoppers added a goal in the last minute to finish the scoring.
Despite the score, the Lady Rams defense played well as they were under a lot of pressure at times. Heinrichs made some great saves in front of the net to keep Penns Valley in the game.
Penns Valley Beats Bishop Guilfoyle to Advance to District 6 AA Semifinals
October 26 - It wasn't necessarily a pretty game but the Lady Rams scored three first half goals to beat Bishop Guilfoyle 3-2. Penns Valley started the game well and capitalized on a corner kick in the second minute to go up early. MaryAnne Ventura took the kick and Ella Myer headed it into the back of the net. Five minutes later the Lady Rams struck again when Emily Searfoss took a throw-in and lobbed it deep into the Guilfoyle penalty area. Myer got to the bouncing ball and beat the keeper for her second goal of the night. Penns Valley kept the ball in the Guilfoyle end of the field for much of the half and Emily Searfoss struck in the 19th minute on an unassisted shot from 25 yards out to make it 3-0. Guilfoyle broke through a minute later, however, on a long through pass to their speedy forward. Holly Heinrichs made the initial diving save but the Guilfoyle forward was able to knock in the rebound.
Penns Valley came out and played sloppily to start the second half. They had trouble successfully clearing the ball on a number of occasions and Guilfoyle took advantage nine minutes into the half with a 25 yard shot that found the back of the net to make the score 3-2. The rest of the half saw Penns Valley dominate at times but unable to connect at other times. The Bishop Guilfoyle keeper had a nice game and made some excellent saves late in the half to keep Penns Valley from getting the insurance goal. In the end, the three goals was all Penns Valley needed to advance to the District 6 AA semifinals. The game will be a rematch of last year's District 6 AA finals against Westmont-Hilltop at Holidaysburg on Monday night at 5:00pm.
Penns Valley Ties Huntingdon, Wins MAC
October 21 - The Lady Rams hosted Huntingdon on Saturday and neither team was able to find the net as the match ended in a 0-0 draw. The Lady Bearcats came to play and were aggressive from the start. In the second half, the Lady Beacats out-hustled the Lady Rams for much of the half but most of the action was in the midfield area and neither team was able to get many dangerous opportunities to score. The first half saw a lot of action in the midfield as both teams worked on their possession games. East Juniata finally broke through with a goal at the 26:01 mark. Play went back and forth the rest of the half with neither team able to find the finishing touch.
In the second half, the Tigers came out strong and really kept possession of the ball. The Lady Rams were not able to find their rhythm for much of the half. Seven minutes into the half, however, Sarah Montminy took possession of the ball about 30 yards out and fed a pass to Jamie Leitch. Oct. 10 - Huntingdon came out hard and hustled all night long, scoring the game-winner one minute into overtime, to beat Penns Valley 3-2.
It was a hard fought game from the beginning on a slick Detwiler Field in Huntingdon. The Lady Rams struck first midway through the first half when MaryAnne Ventura picked up a loose ball inside the penalty area, dribbled around a defender, and beat the keeper to the far post. Huntingdon, however, struck back within a few minutes to tie the game. Towards the end of the half, Huntingdon scored again when they were awarded a penalty kick and converted it to make the score 2-1. Sarah Montminy tied the score a few minutes later when she won the ball from a Huntingdon defender and went in alone on the keeper and buried the ball in the back of the net.
The second half saw a lot more hard play with neither team really controlling the play. Penns Valley did keep the ball in the Huntingdon end of the field much more during the half but was unable to convert on a number of good chances. The Lady Rams were never able to work their passing and possesion game as they had trouble adjusting to the wet field and the hustle of the Huntingdon team. Huntingdon finally got the game winner one minute into overtime when they took a corner kick. There was a struggle in front of the goal for the ball and a Huntingdon player finally got their head on it and knocked it into the net.
In earlier action, the Penns Valley JV beat Huntingdon 3-0. Goals were scored by Kala Fultz, Alison Geesey and Alicia Leitch with assists by Mona Bryant, Greta Baier and Alison Geesey.
Lady Rams Trounce Tyrone
Oct. 5 - Penns Valley scored early and often against the first-year Tyrone Eagles and all 41 Lady Rams got to play as they shut out the Eagles 11-0.
Jamie Leitch got the scoring started 1:23 into the game on an assist from Sarah Montminy. Eight minutes later the pair combined again as Leitch notched her second goal and Montminy her second assist. At 13:05 Montminy added an unassisted goal to make it 3-0. Also tallying goals in the first half were MaryAnne Ventura, Ali Yarger, Mona Bryant and Ashlyn Schriefer. Getting the assists on those goals were Julie Yeagley, Sarah Montminy and MaryAnne Ventura.
Five minutes into the second half Toot McCool scored on an assist from Pam Heinrichs. MaryAnne Ventura then notched her second goal of the day on an assist from Jen Montminy. At 62:30 Jen Montminy added her own goal on an assist from Kristin Darr and then Darr finished the scoring at 73:40 on an assist from Greta Baier.
The Lady Rams outshot the Eagles 24-0 in the first half and 15-4 in the second half. PV had their passing game working from the start and didn't allow much penetration into their defensive end of the field.
Penns Valley Foils Philipsburg
Oct. 3 - Despite having to wait nearly an hour for officials to show up, the Lady Rams quickly got down to business once the game started and shut out Philipsburg-Osceola 6-0.
Sarah Montminy got the scoring started at the 2:45 mark on an assist from Cassie Deardorff. Despite the early goal, the Lady Rams struggled early on to get their passing game going and Philipsburg played with a lot of intensity to put pressure on the ball. Midway through the first half, Penns Valley finally got things going and MaryAnne Ventura struck next at the 19:07 mark on a pass from Larissa Fetterolf. About six minutes later Toot McCool left her mark with a beautiful header into the back of the net off a corner kick from Ashlyn Schriefer. Jamie Leitch finished the scoring in the first half on an assist from Emily Searfoss.
Penns Valley started off the second half the way they ended the first by continuing to control the ball and Jamie Leitch notched her second goal three minutes in off a nice pass from MaryAnne Ventura. Ashlyn Schriefer finished the scoring five minutes later with an unassisted goal.
Lady Rams Blank Bishop Guilfoyle
Sept. 28 - A good night from MaryAnne Ventura provided much of the early offense and another good night from the defense led Penns Valley to a 9-0 win over Bishop Guilfoyle.
Ventura got the scoring started in the 13th minute with an unassisted goal. Then four minutes later she fed a nice pass through to Ashlyn Schriefer who notched her first goal of the night. At 21:50 Ventura scored again with an assist from Sierra Leitch. At 28:50 Julie Yeagley fed a pass to Sarah Montminy who beat the keeper from close range. At 29:12 Katie Kreisher picked up a loose ball and fired it home to finish the scoring for the first half.
The Lady Rams scored early and often in the second half with Schriefer notching her second goal two minutes into the half. Two minutes later Ventura found Jamie Leitch with a nice pass and Leitch found the back of the net. The scoring for the game was finished off by Mona Bryant who scored twice 17 seconds apart in the 51st minute. Bishop Guilfoyle tried to pack it in defensively and never mounted a serious offensive threat. They recorded no shots during the game.
Penns Valley Blanks Bald Eagle
Sept. 27 - Rival Bald Eagle came to town on Tuesday but a stiff defense and a hat trick from Ashlyn Schriefer led the Lady Rams to a 4-0 victory.
Penns Valley dominated play from the start but could not find the finishing touch. The keeper for Bald Eagle turned away shot after shot and had some help from the posts and crossbar on more than one occasion. Meanwhile the PV defense, including Julie Yeagley, Cassie Deardorff, Ella Myer, Jamie Leitch and Ali Yarger, did not allow the BEA offense to get anything going. Holly Heinrichs only had to stop one shot on goal all evening.
At the 30:23 mark, Jen Montminy crossed the ball to the front of the net where a charging Schriefer scored the first goal. Just three minutes later, Schriefer scored again off a nice through pass from MaryAnne Ventura to end the scoring for the half.
In the second half, the Lady Rams kept the pressure on. At 58:12, Sierra Leitch crossed the ball towards the far post where a charging Jamie Leitch knocked it home to make it 3-0. Schriefer then finished the scoring on a beautiful goal at the 65:38 mark. Emily Searfoss took a corner kick and placed it in the air about ten yards from the goal where a leaping Schriefer headed it into the upper right corner of the net. Overall, it was a well played game from the Lady Rams, who really controlled the midfield and passed the ball well.
In earlier action, the Lady Rams JV beat Bald Eagle 6-0 on goals by Kala Fultz, Chelsey Long, Alicia Leitch, Mona Bryant, Alison Geesey and Kate Burlingame. Two assists each were recorded by Katie Kreisher and Mona Bryant.
Penns Valley Beats West Branch
Sept. 22 - The Lady Rams played at West Branch on Thursday and came away the winners by a score of 3-1.
Penns Valley began the first half by passing the ball well but, in spite of a number of good opportunities, could not get a good foot on the ball in front of the net. Finally, at the 17:50 mark, Julie Yeagley played a nice ball through the West Branch defense and Sarah Montminy chased it down and beat the goalie to the far post. West Branch answered later in the first half, however, when a misplayed ball found its way to one of their strikers who found the corner of the goal.
The Lady Rams found a little more success in the second half as MaryAnne Ventura hit a nice left-footed shot from about 20 yards out into the back of the net at the 44:27 mark. Just five minutes later Sarah Montminy found the net again after she dribbled by the defense. Penns Valley outshot West Branch 16-4.
The Penns Valley JV then took on the West Branch JV and shutout the home team by a score of 2-0. Kala Fultz and Lily Hoffman were the goal scorers for the Lady Rams in that game.
Lady Rams Shut Out Moshannon Valley
Sept. 20 - The Lady Rams traveled to Houtzdale on Tuesday evening and, led by two goals from MaryAnne Ventura and a steady defense, shut out Moshannon Valley 8-0.

Penns Valley outshot the Damsels 37-5 and Jess Neese and Ally Lush combined for the shutout in goal.
Penns Valley Blanks Indian Valley
Sept. 19 - The Lady Rams traveled to Lewistown on Monday afternoon and shut out Indian Valley 2-0. Despite numerous good opportunities in the first half, the Lady Rams could not find the back of the net. They finally broke through two minutes into the second half when Ashlyn Schriefer struck a loose ball past the near post and into the goal. Less than three minutes later Sarah Montminy found an open Jamie Leitch who drove the ball past the keeper for the second goal.
After the varsity game, the Penns Valley JV also shut out the Lady Warriors by a score of 2-0. Kala Fultz scored in the first half on an assist from Lily Hoffman. Fultz then added an unassisted goal in the second half.
Lady Rams Overcome Huntingdon
Sept. 15 - On Thursday night Huntingdon surprised Penns Valley with their speed and scored an early goal before the Lady Rams could settle down and wear down the visiting Bearcats with four unanswered goals.
Showing speed and hustle that Penns Valley has not seen in an opponent recently, the Bearcats saw numerous early opportunities to score and finally capitalized at the 10:16 mark when their speediest striker outran the defenders and chipped the ball over the head of a charging Holly Heinrichs and into the back of the net. Heinrichs had to come off of her line quite a few times early in the game and made some nice saves to keep the score at 1-0. At 15:53 Penns Valley struck back when MaryAnne Ventura slipped a nice pass through the Huntingdon defense where a charging Sarah Montminy took it and beat the keeper. The score remained knotted at 1-1 for the rest of the first half as the Penns Valley defense settled down and compensated for the Huntingdon speed and the PV midfielders began to control play in the middle.
Three minutes into the second half Ashlyn Schriefer deflected a nice cross from the wing towards Jamie Leitch who buried the ball into the back of the net. Six minutes later MaryAnne Ventura sent another nice pass through the defense where Sarah Montminy picked it up and scored again. MaryAnne Ventura then finished the scoring at the 51:40 mark when she launched a shot from outside the penalty area which found its way through the keeper's legs.
The Lady Rams did a much better job of controlling play with good passing in the second half and wore down the Bearcats who were forced to chase.
In earlier action the Penns Valley JV beat the Huntingdon JV 1-0. Alison Geesey scored in the first minute of play off an assist from Katie Kreisher.
Penns Valley Beats Tyrone
Sept. 13 - The Lady Rams scored early and often on their way to a 9-1 win over first-year team Tyrone on Tuesday.
Jamie Leitch started the scoring at the 3:13 mark off an assist from Ashlyn Schriefer. A few minutes later, Leitch returned the favor by assisting on a Schriefer goal. Four more goals followed in the first half by Emily Searfoss, Sierra Leitch, Lily Hoffman and Alicia Leitch. Assists were recorded by Sarah Montminy, Alison Geesey and Brandy Holmes.
In the second half, goals were scored by Jamie Leitch, Sarah Montminy and Jess Neese with assists from Ali Yarger and Kate Burlingame. PV outshot Tyrone 42 to 2 for the game.
Lady Rams Blast Bellefonte
Sept. 12 - In their first home game of the year, Penns Valley was led by a strong defense and a hat trick from Sarah Montminy to an 8-2 win over visiting Bellefonte.
Sarah Montminy got the scoring started early at 4:22 when Larissa Fetterolf played a nice cross from the right wing into Montminy who buried the opportunity into the back of the net. Ten minutes later Jess Glasgow took the ball in on the goalie and scored to make it 2-0. Bellefonte answered off of a direct kick that hit the crossbar and bounced in. Jess Glasgow quickly scored again to increase the lead to 3-1 when Emily Searfoss fed her a nice cross from the right side. Jamie Leitch finished the scoring in the first half at 34:54 after MaryAnne Ventura gave her a nice through ball behind the defense.
In the second half, Sarah Montminy scored twice in the first five minutes with assists coming from Larissa Fetterolf and Julie Yeagley. Jamie Leitch notched her second goal at the fifty minute mark off an assist from Ashlyn Schriefer. Julie Yeagley then finished the scoring with a nice header into the goal off of a corner kick by Alison Geesey. Bellefonte managed one more goal at 75:32 to finish the scoring.
The Lady Rams moved the ball very well and kept Bellefonte chasing most of the night. The PV defense was solid the whole game and developed many of the counter-attacks.
In earlier action, the PV JV set the tone for the night by beating the Bellefonte JV 7-1. Kala Fultz netted the hat trick for the Lady Rams with Alison Geesey, Alicia Leitch and Greta Baier also scoring. Assists were credited to Katie Kreisher, Kristin Darr, Alison Geesey and Whitney Crater.
Penns Valley Beats Bishop Guilfoyle
Sept. 10 - The Lady Rams traveled to Altoona on Saturday to take on Bishop Guilfoyle and Emily Searfoss scored her first career hat trick and added an assist to lead PV to a 7-1 win.
Jamie Leitch got the scoring started for the Lady Rams when she took a pass from Emily Searfoss and beat the keeper. Searfoss then scored two more goals in the first half with assists from Toot McCool and Sarah Montminy.
Scoring in the second half were Sarah Montminy, Jamie Leitch, Emily Searfoss and Lily Hoffman. Cassie Deardorff added an assist. The Lady Rams dominated play and outshot BG 25-2. Penns Valley hosts their first home game on Monday, September 12, against Bellefonte.
Lady Rams Blank Philipsburg 2-0
Sept. 8 - Penns Valley played their first league game on Thursday afternoon at Philipsburg and notched their first shutout of the season.
PV dominated play for much of the first half but, inspite of many quality opportunities, could not get the ball in the net. Finally, at the 30 minute mark, Ella Myer beat the outside defender and dribbled the ball in towards the goal along the endline. She crossed the ball back across the middle where she found a charging Toot McCool who knocked it home.
The second half played out in much the same way although Philipsburg did come up with a few scoring opportunities. The Lady Ram defense was able to deny all of their chances. Once again PV peppered Philipsburg with shots but could not convert. With one minute to go in the game, MaryAnne Ventura played a nice chip behind the defense where Sarah Montminy picked it up and beat the keeper for the final score.
In the following game the JV played to a scoreless tie.
Penns Valley Falls to Hughesville
Sept. 3 - In their first ever appearance in the championship match of the Hughesville Tournament, the Lady Rams kept it close in the first half but could not keep it going during the second half as Hughesville came out on top, 6-1.
Hughesville scored the first two goals but the Lady Rams answered when Sarah Montminy drove behind the defense and took a shot from the right side of the goal. The Hughesville goalie deflected it but a charging Jamie Leitch knocked it in the back of the net to get within a goal. PV had some more chances during the half but the size, strength and technical ability of the Hughesville team began to wear the Lady Rams down. Hughesville scored once more before the half to make it 3-1.
In the second half, Penns Valley could not get anything going and Hughesville knocked in three more to make the final score 6-1. In earlier action the Lady Rams JV took the Hughesville JV into overtime before finally falling when Hughesville knocked in the golden goal. PV scored when Katie Kreisher took a penalty kick which was initially blocked by the goalie. Kreisher picked up the rebound and put the ball back across the middle where a hustling Alicia Leitch put it in the net.
Lady Rams Kick Off Season with Win
Sept. 2 - Penns Valley started off their season in stellar fashion on Friday evening with a 3-2 win over Loyalsock at the annual Hughesville Tournament. The win earns them a spot in the tournament final on Saturday evening at 7:00pm against Hughesville.
Loyalsock started off the scoring early, only 50 seconds into the game, after the Lady Rams failed to clear a ball away from the middle. One of the Loyalsock players took a shot from about 20 yards out and lofted it over the head of PV Goalkeeper Holly Heinrichs and just under the crossbar. After that PV settled down and started to take the game to their opponents. After a lot of nice ball movement, MaryAnne Ventura fed a nice pass behind the defense at the 5:52 mark to a hard charging Sarah Montminy who took the ball in on the keeper and buried it in the corner. Five minutes later, Sarah repaid the favor by springing MaryAnne free with a nice pass and MaryAnne buried the shot to make it 2-1. The Lady Rams finished the half with a 7 to 2 shot advantage.
The score stayed the same well into the second half until the 64 minute mark when a Loyalsock player again picked up a loose ball about 20 yards out and played another high shot into the back of the net to make it 2-2. Despite numerous good opportunities Penns Valley could not find the back of the net as the Loyalsock keeper came up big on a number of occasions. With less than 10 minutes left in the game, Coach Wiest moved Ashlyn Schriefer from her defensive position up to the front line to try to crank up the pressure. With less than five minutes to play, Ventura lofted another nice pass to a charging Schriefer who chipped the ball over the keepers head and into the back of the net for the game winner. The Lady Rams outshot the Lady Lancers 12 to 2 in the second half and dominated much of the play.
In earlier action, the Lady Rams JV lost by a score of 1-3 against the Loyalsock JV. It was a good game with a lot of back and forth action. Loyalsock scored first but Katie Kreisher responded by dribbling through the defense and notching her first goal of the season to tie the score. In the second half, the Lady Lancers added two more goals to finish the scoring. The JV will play at 4:00pm on Saturday against Hughesville.
Record: 18-5, JV 4-5-4

Lady Rams' Season Ends
Nov. 2 - On yet another rainy evening Bishop McCort took advantage of their second half opportunities to beat Penns Valley 2-1 in the District 6 semifinals.
The Lady Rams started the game off quickly and created many early opportunities to score. They kept the pressure on the whole half but were unable to find the back of the net. Shots kept going wide or high or right at the Bishop McCort goalkeeper. Meanwhile the defense was able to neutralize any fast breaks by the McCort speedy strikers. The half was dominated by Penns Valley but still ended in a scoreless tie.
The second half started where the first left off with the Lady Rams having some excellent opportunities in the first few minutes but they couldn't capitalize. The momentum began to shift, however, and McCort started to win the close balls. The first goal came off a long throw-in from the corner that bounced in front of the goal and was headed past Holly Heinrichs into the back of the net. Bishop McCort then cranked up the pressure and scored again about ten minutes later when one of their strikers raced to a loose ball and rocketed a shot into the goal. Heinrichs was able to keep McCort out of the net the rest of the night with some stellar saves.
The Lady Rams were able to put some pressure on the McCort defense the rest of the half but were not able to get many shots off as the speedy McCort defenders were able to chase down many of the through balls. The Penns Valley forwards were not able to keep up with the aggressive offsides trap that the McCort defense ran and there were often two or three of the Lady Rams offsides on through balls. Finally, with ten seconds left to play, a ball was kicked behind the McCort defense and a hustling Ashlyn Schriefer chased it down and, under defensive pressure, kicked it past a charging McCort keeper just before time expired.
Bishop McCort will now face Westmont-Hilltop, a 4-1 winner over Richland, for the District Championship.
Juniata Beats Penns Valley in CMGSL Championship
Oct. 30 - In a hard-fought 80 minutes of muddy soccer on Saturday night in Lewistown, Juniata's Kelli Weiger was the difference as she netted the hat trick to lead the Lady Indians to a 3-1 victory over the Lady Rams. This was the first year for the championship game as the league was split into two divisions at the beginning of the year. Juniata and Penns Valley were both undefeated in their separate divisions which setup a tough, physical matchup for the championship. The Juniata victory broke the streak of three successive championships for the Lady Rams.
In a see-saw first half, Juniata struck first midway through the half when Wieger picked up a loose ball inside the penalty area and fired a shot past a charging Holly Heinrichs. Emily Searfoss struck next for the Lady Rams when she took a pass from MaryAnne Ventura and fired a shot which found its way under the Juniata keeper. Then, with less than two minutes left in the half, a poor call by the official gave Juniata a direct kick from about 35 yards out, close to the sideline. Wieger took the kick and placed a perfect shot over Heinrichs into the far upper corner of the net.
In the second half, Penns Valley was unable to solve the Juniata defense and did not get a shot off. With about ten minutes left in the game, the Lady Rams took out a defensive player and put in a forward (a 3-4-3 formation) in order to try to get additional numbers on offense. Unfortunately, Wieger took advantage when her defender got picked by another defender and she broke in free on Heinrichs and blasted a shot into the corner.
Overall, it was a well-played game by both sides and worthy of a championship match. At times, the Lady Rams were able to control the middle of the field but couldn't get the offense going in the second half. Juniata's keeper made some nice saves to keep Penns Valley to one goal. Holly Heinrichs also made some nice saves and Ashlyn Schriefer did well trying to keep up with Wieger all night. In the end, it was a matter of one of the state's finest players making it count when she got her opportunities.
Penns Valley Downs Philipsburg in District Playoffs
Oct. 28 - Philipsburg-Osceola played a tough match against the Lady Rams on Thursday night but could not gain the victory as the Lady Rams won 2-1.
Philipsburg came out hard in the first half and hustled all over the field. Penns Valley could not get their passing game going and there was a lot of back-and-forth action. Finally, at 12:01 into the half, MaryAnne Ventura picked up a ball near the top of the penalty area and launched a low, left-footed shot past the keeper and just inside the goalpost to make it 1-0. Just 51 seconds later, however, the Lady Mounties struck back when they got behind the defense and chipped the ball over Holly Heinrichs and into the back of the net to make the score 1-1. The half ended with neither team able to generate many quality scoring chances.
The Lady Rams were able to shake off the playoff jitters in the second half and settled down and took control of the game. Heinrichs saw very little action in goal as the ball was in Philipsburg's end of the field for most of the second half. The Lady Mounties' defense hung tough, however, and were able to repel any advances by the Lady Rams. One of the most dangerous chances for Penns Valley came off a corner kick when they had numerous shots on goal from close range but there were just too many Philipsburg bodies in the way and the ball did not find the goal. Finally, midway through the half, Ashlyn Schriefer won the ball about 40 yards out and chipped a ball behind the defense. Jen Wise chased it down and chipped over the charging keeper for the game winner. Despite a few more good opportunities, Penns Valley did not find the net again and the game ended 2-1.
Penns Valley will now play Bishop McCort on Tuesday, November 2, at home at 6:30pm for the District semifinals. The winner of that game will play the winner of Westmont-Hilltop and Richland. On Saturday, Penns Valley faces Juniata for the Central Mountain Girls' Soccer League Championship at Mitchell Field in Lewistown at 7:00pm.

The Lady Rams will also play in the Central Mountain Girls' Soccer League Championship on Saturday, October 30, at 7:00pm at Mitchell Field in Lewistown. The Lady Rams (8-0 in Division play) will meet the Juniata Indians (6-0 in Division play) in the first ever CMGSL Championship game.
Lady Rams Blank Bellefonte
Oct. 22 - Playing their fourth game of the week and third day in a row, Penns Valley was able outlast Bellefonte 2-0. Both teams looked tired on another muddy day as they faced each other for the second time in three days.
Jamie Leitch continued her hot streak by notching the first goal midway through the first half. The Lady Rams dominated most of the half and had numerous opportunities but could not capitalize as the Bellefonte defense packed the penalty box and their keeper made some nice saves.
The only goal of the second half came midway through when Jen Wise took the ball down the sideline and made a nice cross to Julie Stover who was all alone about 15 yards from the goal. Stover trapped it and took a shot but the keeper was able to get a piece of the ball. A Bellefonte defender tried to clear it but knocked it into Stover who was charging hard after the ball and knocked it into the back of the net.
Lady Rams Level Lewistown
Oct. 21 - It was another muddy evening in Spring Mills but Penns Valley was able to overcome an early deficit and beat visiting Lewistown 5-1. A huge night from Jamie Leitch was the difference offensively.
Thirty-five seconds into the game Lewistown snuck in a shot from a nearly impossible angle which somehow skidded under Holly Heinrichs for the first goal. The Lady Rams quickly took control of the game after that but Lewistown was dangerous on counterattacks all evening. At 14:36 Jen Wise fed a pass from the corner to Jamie Leitch who buried it in the back of the net to make it 1-1. Five minutes later Leitch took a pass from MaryAnne Ventura and beat the keeper again to make it 2-1 which was the score at the half.
In the second half, Leitch scored three more times to put the game away. Two goals were unassisted and one was assisted by Ashlyn Schriefer. The Penns Valley defense was able to make the adjustments necessary to turn away all of the Lewistown counterattacks in the second half.
Penns Valley Beats Bellefonte
Oct. 20 - On a slippery afternoon in Bellefonte, the Lady Rams clinched the Central Mountain Girls' Soccer League Northern Division title by beating the Red Raiders 3-1.
The annual rivalry was played hard by both teams but neither one was able to score until just before halftime. MaryAnne Ventura drove the ball towards Bellefonte's goal and found a hard charging Jen Wise with a through ball. Wise beat the defender to the ball and then buried it in the back of the net with 56 seconds left in the half.
The Lady Rams took the second half kickoff and Ventura drove at the heart of the defense, slipping through numerous defenders before trying to get a shot off just inside the penalty area. The shot was blocked and the ball bounced out towards midfield. Ashlyn Schriefer charged at it from her stopper back position and took a shot with the first touch. The ball went high in the air towards the goal, caught the keeper out of position, and settled in the back of the net to make the score 2-0. Bellefonte scored next when the Penns Valley defense was called for a trip in the penalty area and one of the Red Raiders scored the ensuing penalty kick. The last goal was scored when Jess Glasgow kicked a rolling ball on the first touch from the corner of the penalty area and looped it over the Bellefonte goalie's head and inside the far post of the goal.
After the game the JV played to a 1-1 tie. Toot McCool scored the lone goal off an assist from Brittany LeVan.
Penns Valley Blanks Bald Eagle
Oct. 18 - The Lady Rams traveled to Bald Eagle Area High School on Monday and shut out the Lady Eagles 2-0. MaryAnne Ventura got Penns Valley started just over three minutes into the game when she took a feed from Sarah Montminy and blasted one in from 20 yards out. At 22:07 Jen Montminy put through a ball to Ashlyn Schriefer who beat her defender and buried it in the right corner of the goal. The Lady Rams dominated play for the rest of the game but were unable to find the goal again as Bald Eagle packed it in defensively. Holly Heinrichs recorded five saves to earn the shutout in goal.
In later action, the Lady Rams JV defeated the Lady Eagles 2-0. Brittany Levan scored the first goal early in the first half while Jess Neese notched the second goal on a penalty kick in the same half. Pam Heinrichs and Jess Neese combined for the shutout in goal.
Penns Valley Blanked by East Juniata
Oct. 14 - The Tigers of East Juniata routed the Lady Rams 6-0 on a cool night in McAlisterville. East Juniata dominated play in the first half and out-hustled and out-played Penns Valley to take a 3-0 lead by halftime.
The Lady Rams came out at halftime with a little more fire and had some early opportunities but couldn't capitalize. They started passing better and the second half was a see-saw battle but Penns Valley could not capitalize on their opportunities. The speed of the Tigers was more than the Lady Rams could handle and caused some defensive breakdowns which led to three more goals late in the half.
The East Juniata JV beat the Penns Valley JV 3-1 earlier with Toot McCool scoring the lone Penns Valley goal.
Penns Valley Shuts Out Huntingdon
Oct. 13 - Ashlyn Schriefer got the start on the front line Wednesday night at Detwiler field in Huntingdon and made the most of it as she netted the hat trick to lead the Lady Rams over the Lady Bearcats 3-0.
As the game started the rain came in and made it a wet and slippery night. The Lady Bearcats came out strong and played hard the whole night. The first half saw a lot of back-and-forth action. The only goal came at 7:30 when Emily Searfoss took a corner kick and Schriefer ran hard through a tangle of bodies to knock the bouncing ball in the back of the net. The Lady Rams had trouble stringing passes together in the half and couldn't control the flow of play.
Penns Valley came out with a purpose in the second half and immediately took control of the game. Controlled passes and timely runs made the difference. At 8:27, Julie Stover passed a ball through to a hard charging Schriefer who beat the defender to the ball and rocketed a left foot shot past the keeper to make the score 2-0. Five minutes later Schriefer took a ball the defenders failed to clear successfully and beat the keeper high to make it 3-0. The Lady Rams had a number of other quality opportunities as they kept the ball in the Lady Bearcats' end of the field for most of the rest of the half.
Julie Stover did a nice job taking Ashlyn Schriefer's normal position at stopper back. MaryAnne Ventura and Sarah Montminy worked together well to control the middle for much of the game. The entire team played well to achieve the victory. In earlier action the Lady Rams' JV lost to Huntingdon, 1-0.
Lady Rams Bounce Back Against Philipsburg
Oct. 11 - After a few weeks where Penns Valley struggled to put their passing game together they finally found it again against Philipsburg-Osceola on Monday night. Big offensive games from Brittnee Rossman and Jess Glasgow led the Lady Rams to shutout the Mounties 6-0.
Emily Searfoss got PV started early when she trapped down a Jess Glasgow cross and knocked a left-footed shot past the PO keeper 1:23 into the game. For the next 20 minutes the Lady Rams struggled connecting their passes. While they were making some good decisions, the execution was slightly off. Finally, towards the end of the first half, things started to click. At 24:56, Julie Stover hustled to win a loose ball in front of the net and buried it in the net for a 2-0 lead. At 34:01, MaryAnne Ventura took a nice feed from Sarah Montminy, slipped past some defenders and launched a rocket from 20 yards out which beat the keeper high. Brittnee Rossman finished the scoring in the half when she took another nice pass from Sarah Montminy, broke behind the defense and chipped it over the keeper's head with 14 seconds left in the half.
In the second half, the Lady Rams continued the nice ball movement. At 3:15 into the half, Jess Glasgow took a pass from Jamie Leitch and fired a screamer past the PO keeper from the right side of the penalty box to make it 5-0. Brittnee Rossman finished the scoring ten minutes later when she ran in on a Jess Glasgow corner kick and headed a bouncing ball into the back of the net.
The defense, including Kara Myers, Ali Yarger, Ashlyn Schriefer and Julie Yeagley, played very well to come up with their ninth shutout of the season. Holly Heinrichs and Jess Neese earned the shutout in goal, with Jess needing to make a nice diving save a few minutes before the end of the game to preserve the shutout. The midfielders, especially MaryAnne Ventura and Sarah Montminy, had their best game of the year and worked well together, controlling the center of the field. Jen Wise, sometimes being triple-teamed, kept the defense busy watching her which opened up opportunities for others to score. Overall, it was a great effort to build on for the tough games coming up.
Lady Rams Shut Out by Juniata
Oct. 7- Penns Valley and Juniata continued their rivalry in a hard-fought afternoon game in Mifflintown. Kelli Wieger scored two goals and assisted on a third to lead the Indians to the victory over the Lady Rams, 3-0.

Penns Valley started the second half out strong but the Indians capitalized on an early opportunity five minutes into the half to make it 2-0. With two minutes left in the game, Juniata scored their final goal.
Holly Heinrichs made some nice saves in goal but the Lady Rams could never find their rhythm on offense. The Juniata JV won the second match 1-0.

Britt Rossman added her second goal three minutes before halftime when she won a loose ball in front of the net and put a left-footed shot in the goal. Once again, the Lady Rams came out stronger in the second half and carried the play for most of the half. The Lady Warriors still created some opportunities but the Lady Ram defense, led by Julie Yeagley and Ashlyn Schriefer, came through each time. Holly Heinrichs had a strong game in goal and Kara Myers and Ali Yarger played well against the wings. Seventeen minutes into the half Jess Glasgow took a corner kick and Sarah Montminy capitalized by knocking a bouncing ball into the back of the net from twelve yards out.

Penns Valley Beats Huntingdon
Sept. 21 - The Huntingdon Bearcats came to play when they visited Penns Valley on Tuesday night. In the toughest match for the Lady Rams since Loyalsock, they were able to use another strong second half to bury the Bearcats, 3-1.
The first half was a seesaw battle but Jen Wise was able to convert on a breakaway about ten minutes into the game. She gathered the ball around midfield and out-muscled and out-sprinted the Bearcat fullbacks and finished with a shot high over the keeper. Huntingdon then converted towards the end of the half with a shot from about 25 yards out that looped over Holly Heinrichs' head and into the back of the net.
For the second night in a row, the Lady Rams came out strong in the second half. Twenty-seven seconds into the half, MaryAnne Ventura took a pass from Jen Montminy and fired it into the top corner of the net from about 20 yards out. Four minutes later Ventura found the back of the net again from about the same spot on a pass from Julie Stover. Penns Valley carried the play for most of the rest of the half but Huntingdon did have a few more chances to score that were turned back. The most dangerous resulted from a handball in the penalty area. On the ensuing penalty kick, the Huntingdon player kicked it too high and it rebounded off of the crossbar where the defense was able to clear it. Strong play from Ventura, Jamie Leitch and Ashlyn Schriefer, as well as many others, helped to carry the night.
The JV managed a tie, 1-1, earlier in the evening. Cassie Deardorff notched the lone goal for the Lady Rams from about 20 yards out.

A hustling Ashlyn Schriefer was able to clear it just as it was crossing the goal line to preserve the shutout.
In the second half, Jen Wise added an insurance goal for the Lady Rams by beating the keeper high from about 10 yards out. Julie Stover got the assist and Penns Valley finished the game with a 2-0 win. In earlier action, the Loyalsock JV beat the Lady Rams JV 1-0. Penns Valley's Season Ends in Johnstown 4-0
Oct. 30 - The Lady Rams ended their season when they ran into a tough and talented Westmont-Hilltop in Johnstown. Penns Valley didn't have the answer to the size and speed of the Lady Hilltoppers but put forth a valiant effort in their quest for their first district crown.
Westmont-Hilltop controlled the ball from the beginning and netted their first goal ten minutes into the game with a 30 yard shot over Holly Heinrichs. They scored again a few minutes later. The Lady Rams did well to end the half behind 2-0.
Penns Valley played better in the second half, stringing some passes together, and made some drives into Westmont's defensive third of the field. Erin Glasgow had the best scoring opportunity when she beat the left side fullback and sent a shot wide right of the goal. The Lady Hilltoppers put two more goals in before the end of the game.
Holly Heinrichs had a huge game in the goal, making many diving saves and stopping some point blank shots. She ended up with 20 saves for the game. The defense was under constant assault and did a good job of clearing away many dangerous attacks.
Despite the season-ending loss, it was another great year for the Lady Rams. They made it further into post-season play than any other Lady Ram soccer team before them and set a number of records in the process.
Penns Valley Beats Bishop McCort in District Semifinal
Oct. 28 - The Lady Rams played an inspired district semifinal match and beat a fast Bishop McCort team 3-1. Jen Wise had her sixth hat trick of the year to provide all of the scoring while the defense came up big even though they had a speed disadvantage. This year's Lady Rams now have the distinction of going further in post-season play than any team before them.
Bishop McCort struck first midway through the first half when one of their strikers broke through the defense and beat a charging Holly Heinrichs with a low shot into the corner of the goal. Penns Valley struck back within a few minutes when MaryAnne Ventura fed a ball over the defense to a hard charging Jen Wise who buried the shot in the bottom of the net. The Lady Rams struck again before the half ended when Laura Anderson put a ball through to Jen Wise who froze the keeper and put the ball in the left corner of the net. The half ended with Penns Valley ahead 2-1 but with Bishop McCort applying a lot of pressure.
The second half saw a lot of back and forth play before Penns Valley struck again when Abby Young put a ball through to Jen Wise who beat the defense again and scored. Penns Valley then cranked up the pressure and created some more dangerous opportunities but couldn't find the net again. The Lady Ram defense led by Laura Anderson and a stellar game from Ashlyn Schriefer rose to the occasion and shut out Bishop McCort in the second half. MaryAnne Ventura, Jess Glasgow, Jen Montminy, and Abby Young all made big stops on their fast wingers. Holly Heinrichs was solid in goal and didn't give McCort many second chances.
The Lady Rams now play Westmont-Hilltop in the district finals at Johnstown Athletic Complex in Johnstown on Thursday, October 30, at 6:00pm.
Penns Valley Blanks Bald Eagle Area in Districts
Oct. 23 - The Lady Rams played their first-round district match against a pesky Bald Eagle team and came away the 2-0 winners. The game was started over an hour late due to a game beforehand that went to penalty kicks but the Lady Rams didn't let it bother them as they notched another shutout.
Penns Valley created many dangerous opportunities during the first half but could not find the back of the net as the Bald Eagle keeper came up with some big saves. Finally, with three minutes left in the half, Jen Wise got to a Jess Glasgow cross in front of the net and touched the ball to Jamie Leitch who beat the keeper. Two minutes later Leitch fed a ball through to Jen Wise who also buried it in the net.
The second half saw some back and forth action with the Lady Rams still putting on most of the pressure but Bald Eagle did create a few dangerous opportunities. The Penns Valley defense was equal to the task and Holly Heinrichs made a few nice saves in goal to preserve the shutout.
The Lady Rams will now face Bishop McCort, which was a 6-1 winner over Central Cambria, at Penns Valley on Tuesday, October 28, at 6:00pm. The current district playoff bracket is located here.
Congratulations Erin Glasgow and Jen Wise!

Oct. 15 - A day after finishing league play undefeated, the Lady Rams put an exclamation point on the season by beating second place Juniata 2-1. The Indians only had one loss on the season, and that was in there first meeting with Penns Valley, so they came in looking for revenge. Game conditions were tough as the temperature dropped and the winds howled across the field. The Lady Rams won the toss and decided to play with the wind at their backs for the first half.
With the wind advantage, Penns Valley dominated play during the first half, limiting Juniata to a few counter attacks. The Lady Rams created numerous goal-scoring opportunities but the Indians packed the defensive end of the field and knocked away shot after shot. In the 21st minute, Penns Valley finally broke through when Mindy Ash flicked a header on to Jen Wise who broke out of a crowd and beat the keeper. In spite of a few more dangerous opportunities for Penns Valley, the halftime score stayed 1-0.
In the second half, the Lady Rams had to deal with the wind in their faces and they did a great job of taking the wind out of the game. They kept the ball on the ground and used short passes to move up the field and create more opportunities. Seven minutes into the half Abby Young beat a defender and broke into the clear behind the defense in the left side of the penalty area. The defender tried to catch up but took Young down from behind, resulting in a penalty kick. MaryAnne Ventura buried the shot in the right side of the net for the second goal.
The rest of the half saw back and forth play until Juniata scored with one minute to go on a long shot from the right side of the field. They then pushed everyone up in an effort to score but the defense, led by Laura Anderson, stiffened and didn't let them get the equalizer. The Lady Rams now look forward to their first district match on Thursday, October 23, at 7:30pm against Bald Eagle on the Penns Valley Athletic Field.
Oct. 14 - On yet another rainy night Penns Valley grabbed the Central Mountains League Small School title with a 9-0 victory over West Snyder. In earlier action the Lady Rams JV lost to Bellefonte 2-3 with goals from Emily Searfoss and Brittnee Rossman.
Oct. 4 - On a windy and rainy Saturday Penns Valley played to a 4-4 tie against a physical Mifflinburg team. Field conditions rapidly worsened during the first half which resulted in slippery, sloppy play in the second half and overtime. The Lady Wildcats struck first with a shot from 20 yards out which found the upper left corner of the net. After that, Penns Valley started to put the pressure on and scored three unanswered goals. Jamie Leitch struck first with an assist from Ashlyn Schriefer. MaryAnne Ventura struck next on a well-placed penalty kick after Leitch got taken down in the penalty box. MaryAnne Ventura also had an assist on the night.

Sept. 30 - Penns Valley traveled to Houtzdale to play Mo Valley on Monday and came away with a 9-0 win. Schriefer hustled to the ball and beat the goalie from close range. Towards the end of the first half, Christie Wiest crossed the ball into Schriefer who found the lower corner of the net from 15 yards out.
Penns Valley controlled much of the play in the second half with a combination of crisp passing and well-timed runs. Christie Wiest notched the first goal of the half off a nice through pass from Abby Young. Schriefer finished the scoring and her hat trick with her typical hustle, following a shot that the keeper couldn't handle and placing it in the back of the net. Later in the second half, Erin Glasgow broke through behind the defense on a pass from Schriefer and beat the keeper from 8 yards away. Overall the Lady Rams outshot East Juniata by 35-4.
