Plan the Future: Join a Comprehensive Plan Committee

November 4, 2021

Hello Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,

The Penns Valley Area School District is beginning the process of updating our Comprehensive Plan and we would appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with you. The process of building the plan includes eight separate committees which will meet regularly over the next several months. The proposed plans from each committee will then be reviewed by the Steering Committee and aligned to form the district’s Comprehensive Plan. The six-year plan will be implemented no later than August, 2022. As with all of our long-term planning, we believe it is important to have input from our students, faculty, administration, board, parents, and community members. Our prior plans have helped the District to achieve financial stability and academic success and with our updated plan we will strive to be even better tomorrow than we are today.

The eight committees are as follows:

Chapter 4 Educational Plan (Elementary & Secondary)

This plan addresses the K-12 Academic Program provided by the school district with respect to curriculum, instruction, academic standards and graduation requirements.

Chapter 12 Student Services Plan

This plan addresses the coordinated K-12 services provided to students with regard to guidance, career planning, targeted assistance for struggling students and other services.

Professional Education Plan

This plan addresses the professional development program provided to all professional staff in the district that will support the attainment of district goals.

Teacher Induction Plan

This plan addresses the professional development program to specifically address the unique needs of new teachers to the district and/or to the profession.

Special Education Plan

This plan addresses the specific needs of the varied population of students served by special education (including gifted education) in the district.

Educational Technology Plan

This plan addresses the use of instructional technology (hardware and software) to support the success of all students in light of district goals for curriculum, instruction and assessment.

Facilities Plan

This plan addresses the use of facilities and ensures that they are adequately suited to support the educational goals of the district and the athletic and extracurricular activities Penns Valley offers its students.

Finance Plan

This plan addresses how funding will be allocated and distributed so that Penns Valley is able to successfully implement the comprehensive plan.

We ask that you please consider serving on one of the committees.  The goals established by these groups are absolutely crucial to the success of the district and will be our focus for the next six years. If you agree to serve, you will be contacted regarding meeting dates and times once the committees are established.  Most of the meetings will be held virtually while covid-19 restrictions are in place, which also allows for less travel time and more flexibility for committee members.

If you are interested in serving on one of our committees, please contact me at ddalton@pennsvalley.org or call 814-422-2000 ext. 2240 on or before November 10, 2021. Your time commitment will vary based on which committee you are assigned, but we will make every effort to be reasonable and considerate in scheduling meetings. We thank you in advance for your help.

I look forward to working with you throughout this process.

Sincerely,
